Subway Surfers Adds Permanent Competitive Mode “Showdown”
SYBO has introduced a new permanent game mode, “Showdown,” in Subway Surfers, released globally on March 30. The update adds a competitive race format in which players run simultaneously against up to five others, aiming to achieve the highest score within a session.
The feature expands on a limited-time version previously tested during a 2025 collaboration event with Brawl Stars. That earlier iteration allowed developers to trial multiplayer mechanics and gather player feedback before implementing a permanent version.
In Showdown, players compete in real time, with outcomes influenced by movement, timing, and use of in-game power-ups. The mode represents a structural change from the title’s traditional single-run format, which has remained largely consistent since its 2012 launch.
The update is being released alongside the Easter Ireland-themed World Tour season, running from March 30 to April 19. The seasonal content introduces a new environment and additional unlockable items tied to the event.
